Index of Industrial Production(IIP) has been lifted up by 10.3% in the month of October 09 as compared to the growth rate of 9. 6 %, during the last month. This is a clear sign of recovery from recession which engulfed the nation for last some months of the year though it was not so serious as it was in other countries like USA. In October 2008, a time when the recession was at its peak, the index of Industrial Production (IIP) rose by a mere 0.1%.

The overall growth for the April-October 2009-10 has been recorded at 7.1% as compared to 4.3% during the corresponding period in 2008-09. Manufacturing growth, which has been declining by 0.6% in October 2008, has increased by 11.1% during October in this year. Also the growth in the mining and electricity sector accelerated to 8.2 per cent and 4.7 per cent, respectively, as compared to the growth rate of 3.2 per cent and 4.4 per cent during the corresponding period in the 2008.
