Performance of Mobile Services Companies

The highest monthly additions of GSM subscriber were in the month of March 2010. It was 13.9 million. The GSM subscriber addition in April 2010 at 11.2 million was lower than month of March addition. The monthly additions for April stood close to seven months average of 11.3 million subscribers. The growth was led by B and C circles, which have grown (MoM) by 2.8% and 3.2%, respectively. DB Etisalat launched its services in 15 circles and added just 4,990 subscribers. Bharti Airtel led the addition in April 2010 by adding 3.0 million subscribers, highest subscribers among telcos. After a record addition of 3.6 million subscribers, Vodafone added 2.9 million subscribers. Idea’s net adds stood at 1.5, lower than last month’s net adds of 1.5 million as in March 2010. Aircel added 1.6 million subscribers vs. 2.0 million in March 2010.

Airtel :- Net adds for Bharti remained strongest at 3.0 million subscribers in April 2010, flat MoM, highest among telcos. With this, the total subscriber base at the end of April 2010 stands at 130.6 million. Share in net adds for the company improved to 26.8% as compared to 23.2% in the last month. The subscriber market share of Airtel was down to 31.3% in April 2010 vs. 31.5% in March 2010.

Idea :- Net adds for Idea Cellular further declined during April 2010. It added 1.5 million subscribers, lower than last month’s addition of 1.7 million. Net adds at 1.5 million subscribers stood lower than its last seven months average of 2.2 million. Net additions in AP, UP (W) and Mumbai, dragged down the total net adds for April 2010. Share in net adds and subscriber market share for Idea stood at 13.1% and 15.7%, respectively in April 2010.

Vodafone :- Post the month of highest ever net adds of 3.6 million subscribers, Vodafone added 2.9 million subscribers during April 2010. Subscriber addition was lower than last seven months average of 3.2 million subscribers. The share in total net adds stood at 25.9%, down from 28.0% in the last month. Subscriber market share remained stable MoM at 24.9%.

Others :- Aircel added 1.6 million subscribers lower than last month’s addition of 1.8 million. BSNL’s net adds declined 49.3% MoM. It added 1.3 million vs. 2.5 million subscribers in the last month. Uninor added 0.8 million vs. 0.7 million in March 2010. S-Tel added 0.1 million subscribers against 0.3 million in the last the month. MTNL added only 33,000 subscribers as compared to 87,420 in the last month. DB Etisalat also launched its services in 15 circles and added just 4,990 subscribers in the month of launch.
