Indian Stock exchanges (NSE and BSE) are going to start Pre-Open Sessions from 18th October 2010. Timing for this session has been fixed at 9.00 AM to 9.15 AM. Normal trading will start from 9.15 AM onwards due to this Pre-Open Session.

The first eight minutes will be reserved for order entry, modification and cancellation. The next four minutes will be kept for order matching and trade confirmation. The remaining three minutes will be the buffer period to facilitate the transition from Pre-Open Session to the normal market. Initially, the Pre-Open Session will be applicable for Nifty-50 Scrips and Sensex-30 Scrips.

The Pre Open Session will, to certain extent, reduce the volatility in the market observed in the few minutes/seconds of trading hours, and is expected to help both institutional and retail investors, due to less price volatility. According to reliable sources, a uniform price band of 20 percent will be applicable eligible Scrips during the Pre-Open Session.
