Reliance Power is India`s leading private sector power generation company. The company starts its operation in Uttar Pradesh at Rosa Plant. In beginning the company starts 20 MW power generation on 28th Dec 09, which is the birth anniversary of its founder Dhirubhi Ambani. Rosa power plant has a power generation capacity of 1200 MW, plant is located in Rosa, Shahjahanpur, 350 KM from Delhi. The company is going to invest Rs 6000 crore here in Rosa to generate 1200 MW of power at its full capacity running by March 2012.
The company plans to build at least 3000 MW capacity by March 2012, the first 300MW unit of which will be fully operational by end of January 2010.
Reliance Power had no power generation capacity in place when it hit the market with initial public offer (IPO) early last year, though it had several projects in pipeline.
Rosa power plant is the first private thermal power plant to be set up in the state which is facing peak power shortfall of 22-23%, or 4000 MW. Entire 600 MW power from the fist phase will be supplied to the state. Reliance is adding another 600 MW in the second phase, of which 300 MW will be state’s share while the rest is to be marketed by the developer as merchant power.
Operating at a plant load factor (PLF) of 80%, the Rosa plant will generate 9,000 million units of electricity a year. The electricity generated by the plant will light up 4 lakh homes and reduce loadshedding in the state by 25%. The bulk of the power generated by the plant will be consumed in nearby districts. That means relatively low power transmission cost for the project.
Reliance Power has project portfolio to develop 33000 MW power generation capacity with an estimated investment of over Rs 1 lakh crore. It has bagged three out of the four ultra mega power projects bid out by the government so far. However, it has so far commissioned only 300 mw capacity.
