BHEL bags order worth Rs 1016 crores

State-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in India in the energy-related/infrastructure sector. The company has informed the market(BSE) that they bagged a Rs 1016 crores contract for supplying equipment to a hydro power project in Bhutan. This is a significant landmark for the company. The order is for supplying electro-mechanical equipment package for a 1200 MW (6×200 MW) hydroelectric project.

The order envisages manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of the electro-mechanical equipment for the 1200 MW Punatsangchhu-I Hydroelectric project.

The project is being set-up under a bilateral agreement between the Government of India, and the Royal Government of Bhutan.

For this contract, the six Francis Turbines and Generators of 200 MW each and associated equipment will be manufactured and supplied by BHEL’s Bhopal facility while the Control system will be manufactured and supplied by BHEL’s Electronic Division at Bangalore.
